I recently retired and am honoured to have been the first female leader for commercial risk globally.
My day-to-day efforts were focused on providing distinctive value for clients and attracting the best talent to Aon. I’ve always been passionate about developing innovative risk solutions and strive to be a mentor to the next generation of insurance leaders.
I was with Aon for 35 years where I led teams at the local branch and regional levels before ultimately culminating in national leadership appointments and becoming Aon’s most senior broking officer in Canada.
I’m proud to have worked with more than 1,500 colleagues across the country, providing risk and insurance solutions to organizations and individuals from coast to coast.
Vicky is a non-executive director at First State Investments group (since 2018) and private bankers Hampden & Co (since 2014), where she chairs the Audit and Risk Committee. She is also an independent advisor specialising in governance, risk and board effectiveness reviews including board training. Vicky’s current portfolio career is built on over 30 years working at board and executive management levels, responsible for risk, regulation and internal audit at insurers such as AXA, AEGON and Police Mutual, and latterly in an advisory capacity in FTSE 100 companies, London Market and mutual organisations. She hung up her ‘executive boots’ in 2017 after some 5 years balancing her executive, non-executive and advisory roles.
Her roles as chief risk officer, compliance director and chief internal auditor have often driven a technical agenda (inevitable in our industry) but Vicky has continued to observe the human factor in influencing success or failure in organisations. Her focus in business today is looking after the people agenda, building relationships and trust with internal and external stakeholders for mutual success.
Vicky is the first President and former Founding Chair of the Insurance Internal Audit Group, a not-for-profit body which supports practitioners from internal audit and other ‘control functions’ in over 100 companies. She is a FT Adviser features writer and author of ‘Integrated Assurance: Risk governance beyond boundaries’ (Gower, 2014).
